Slippurinn Akureyri will deliver turnkey solutions in fresh fish vessels Kaldbakur EA 1 and Björgúlfur 312 for Samherji.

An agreement has been signed between Samherji and Slippurinn Akureyri on new factory decks in the fresh fish vessels Kaldbakur EA 1 and Björgúlfur EA 312. It is estimated that Slippurinn will finish installation of the factory deck in Kaldbakur late summer and then in Björgúlfur early next year. Last year, Slippurinn delivered a factory deck in Björg EA, which is the sister ship of Kaldbakur and Björgúlfur.

„The factory deck in Björg EA has been a great success during this first year, and the catch handling has been excellent. The service and the follow-up by Slippurinn have been good and only minimal problems since the ship went on its first fishing trip. Therefore it was decided to finalize an agreement with Slippurinn to design, produce and install a factory deck in both Kaldbakur EA 1 and Björgúlfur 312” says Hjörvar Kristjánsson, project manager at Samherji.

Slippurinn will deliver a turnkey solution with subcontractors like Stranda and Holmek.

“We want to offer our customers the best solutions available at any given time. It was decided with Samherji to buy helix-tanks from Stranda and elevators from Holmek. We know those companies well and are working with them on other projects” says Ágúst Guðnason head designer at Slippurinn Akureyri.

In the design of the factory decks in Kaldbakur and Björgúlfur, the focus was on catch handling, walking routes and access to cleaning.

“It was a priority that the factory decks would be simple and efficient, which results in a better processing flow and reduces the risk of maintenance which is important to Samherji and us,” says Ágúst.

Foreign ships in Slippurinn Akureyri shipyard

Canadian shrimp vessel Newfound Pioneer which is owned by Newfound Resources has been in Slippurinn Akureyri shipyard over a month now. The ship is in a standard class inspection and has been bottom cleaned and painted, anode renewal, withdrawal of shaft along with other smaller maintenance projects. The ship is one of many foreign vessels that have entered Slippurinn in Akureyri in recent years.

“The fishing fleet here in Iceland has undergone a great deal of renewal and, as a result, the ships are not coming as often and need less maintenance than before. That’s why we have put more emphasis on receiving foreign ships to us, mainly from Russia, Greenland, Canada, and Norway. However, the competition is high, both here and abroad,” says Ólafur Ormsson, division manager at Slippurinn Akureyri, asked about the issue.

Next week the Greenland vessel Nataarnaq will arrive at Slippurinn Akureyri. There will be overhaul on main engine and gear, shaft withdrawal, maintenance of the winch system among other jobs.

“The project status is good for the next few months. What gives us a certain advantage is that we offer a wide range of services and capacity to complete tasks on agreed timeframe. We also work according to the ISO 9001 quality system, which is an international certification and ensures that we have to meet quality requirements and comply with certain procedures in our services, which our customers appreciate,” says Ólafur in an interview with the website.

Slippurinn Akureyri to produce and install the processing deck in Nergård Havfiske´s new trawler

Slippurinn Akureyri has finalized an agreement with the Norwegian fishing company
Nergård Havfiske, to design, produce and install a processing deck in a new freezer
trawler. The Norwegian shipyard Vard will be building the ship and Slippurinn will supervise
the processing deck with a turnkey solution, along with subcontractors such as
Intech, Marel, Baader and Holmek.

The contract with Nergård Havfiske is the largest single contract that Slippurinn has
made in relation to a vessel´s fish processing deck and it is a great recognition for us
in every way. In recent years we have been expanding on the market for fishing
vessels and land-based processing equipment, and we are very pleased that
Nergård has chosen us for this project,” says Eiríkur S. Jóhannsson, CEO of
Slippurinn in Akureyri.

The new vessel is 80 meters long and 17 meters wide and the processing deck will
have a processing line for both fish and shrimp. It is estimated that the new vessel
will be ready for fishing in February next year.

In the past five years, Slippurinn has delivered six decks in freezer trawlers, most of
these projects for companies connected to Samherji. The great knowledge in fishing
and processing within the Samherji group has strengthened all the solutions
Slippurinn now offers, and these solutions have attracted great attention in the
international fisheries sector. It is fair to mention that in 2017, Slippurinn delivered
processing decks in the freezer trawlers Berlin NC 105 and Cuxhaven NC 100 for
Deutsche Fischfang Union, which have had excellent experience.
Slippurinn has also produced and managed production decks for fresh fish trawlers.
Slippurinn undertook a total solution for processing decks in the fresh fish trawler
Björg EA 7 for Samherji last year, and the catch and the treatment of the fish in the
ship have been first class.

The projects we have been working on in recent years have been very successful.
We have developed our equipment and put more emphasis on offering complete
solutions to our customers than before. This agreement with Nergård and Vard is
therefore a good testimony to the positive developments that have taken place here
and a quality stamp for Slippurinn and our good staff,” says Eiríkur in an interview
with the website.

New website

New website of Slippurinn has been put into use, the website was in collaboration with Kristján at KraT and we thank him for his excellent service. The major changes to the new site are news releases, a better description of the processing equipment that we design and manufacture, and an overview of the projects that Slippurinn has been working on regarding ship service.
